Alfredo R. Gonzalez passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 85.

Alfredo was born in General Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico. A graduate of the Escuela Nacional de Agricultura in Chapingo, Mexico, he went on to earn a master’s degree from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. Alfredo devoted 20 years to a career in academics as a professor at the University of Arkansas and then made his home in Tucson, Arizona for over 25 years. He was a gifted horticulturist and helped to establish Mission Garden in Tucson, AZ. Known for his amiable nature, kindness, authenticity, and generous spirit - a mentor, teacher, and inspiration to many.

Above all, Alfredo was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Rosann; his son, Stevan Gonzalez, MD, of Fort Worth, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Alexis; and his two beloved grandchildren.

He will be remembered with love and gratitude and will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
