Dempsey Dean Vest, passed away on October 19, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 81 years old. He was born in Flora, Illinois on November 19, 1939 to Ogie and Hester Vest and attended Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, graduating in 1961 with a degree in accounting. Dempsey enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, entering as a lieutenant. He completed three tours in Vietnam as a B-52 navigator. He eventually earned the rank of captain before being honorably discharged in 1968. After his military service, he moved to Houston where he began his career in public accounting and earned his Certified Public Accountant License. While there, he shifted to the oil and gas industry. This new line of work would take him to Oklahoma and eventually Fort Worth, where he continued to work until he retired in 2012. It was during one of those career stops that he wound up meeting the love of his life, Carmen. After he retired, Carmen and Dempsey did not stay still, traveling all across the U.S. and Canada. While home, he loved grilling and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of Kiwanis International since 2012. Dempsey is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carmen, and his six children, Michelle Lynn and her husband Bob; Allan Vest and his wife Barb; Gregory Weghorst and his wife Rachel; Stephen Weghorst; Mark Weghorst and his wife Jennifer; and Stephanie Rivera and her husband Nephtaly. He was also blessed with four grandchildren, Jake & Justin Lynn, Jackson Weghorst, and Daniella Rivera. In addition, he is survived by Elizabeth, the mother of Michelle and Allan. He was preceded in death by his parents Ogie and Hester Vest, and his siblings George Brock Vest, Marion Collins, and Joe Vest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions in Dempsey's name to Samaritan's Purse.
