Jim Colter (J.R.) December 5, 1935-November 21, 2023
James R. Colter passed away Tuesday afternoon November 21, 2023 in Colleyville, TX. He was 87 years old.
Jim was born in Bakersfield, CA and was the son of Hal. R. Colter and Eveyln Nelsen McCarthy.
After graduating from Bakersfield High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Nina Paulk.
They then moved to San Luis Obispo where he attended Cal Poly. He graduated from Cal Poly with a petroleum engineering degree. They then moved to Brownfield, TX. He had two children, Karen Robertson of Grapevine, TX, and Greg Colter of Colorado City, CO.
Jim settled in Midland, Texas where he worked throughout the Permian Basin during his career.
Later he created his own business, Colter Operating, which he did consulting in the oil industry for a few years
before retiring and moving to Horseshoe Bay, TX.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf in many different places all over. He enjoyed traveling with his friends and going on golf trips.
Jim not only loved his friends but also enjoyed his grandchildren. He loved his family and would have a wonderful time when everyone would get together for the holidays.
He loved going to the great grandchildren's ball games and would go to as many of them as he could. He truly loved everyone that was part of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nina Colter. His daughter Karen Robertson, son-in-law Roy Robertson both of Grapevine, TX, also his son Greg Colter, daughter-in-law Liz Colter both of Colorado City, CO. Two grandchildren, Suzanne Transier and her husband James. Kimberly Williams and her husband Billy. Four Great Grandchildren, Tanner and Addison Transier, Billy and Mark Williams.
The family wants to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for all their hard work. A celebration of life will be held at a later date
