James C. “Jim” Sawey, age 81, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on August 24, 2026. Born November 25, 1944, in Fort Worth to Clarence and Ruby Sawey, Jim lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, integrity, faith, and a deep love for family and community.

Jim attended St. Ignatius Academy, Laneri High School, and Arlington State College. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an internal auditor with the Texas Department of Transportation, where he served for 45 years. During his TxDOT years he also brought joy to hundreds of children and their families by playing Santa- a role he cherished.

Beyond his work, Jim had a vibrant spirit and a wide range of interests. He loved reading western novels, gardening, cooking, camping, vacation trips, and cheering on his TCU Horned Frogs. He was known for his stories about serving as an altar boy with his brother Bob, camping trips, hikes at Philmont, and sharing his cooking at celebrations and gatherings throughout the community. He was a longtime supporter of the Longhorn Council of Scouting America, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Karen; their children and grandchildren; his sister; his beloved cat, Dani; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; mother, Ruby; and brother Bob.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 6009 Wedgwood Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76133.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Jim’s honor be made to the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur 909 West Shaw Street, Fort Worth, TX 76110.
