Saturday
St. John's Anglican Church
10:00 - 11:00 am (Central time)
Jane Whitmeyer passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.
Jane was a Southern belle born in Alabama. Her father worked in the mining industry, leading the family to move around several Northeastern states. She graduated from high school in Cranford, New Jersey, and moved to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University, where she met and married her first husband. Together they had two daughters, Lynne Swihart and Glynis Andrews. Jane was later married to her second husband, who preceded her in death, and with whom she had a daughter, Elizabeth Watson.
Jane met her final love, Victor Whitmeyer, at their high school class reunion. He was a recent widower and her husband had also recently passed. They began a sweet, long-distance courtship and were married soon after. Victor retired and moved to Texas, uniting their families, between her three daughters and his three sons, into a modern-day Brady Bunch. She and Victor became active members of Trinity Episcopal and St. John’s Anglican churches. Jane retired after a career in the Information Services department at TCU, where she and Victor enjoyed her game-day privileges with years of tailgating before Horned Frogs games.
In retirement, Jane worked as an editor and reviewer for novelists prior to publication. She cherished special friendships with "her authors" and always had a wonderful book recommendation for friends. A lifelong animal lover, she cared for a well-fed colony of local feral cats, raccoons and opossums, alongside her beloved domesticated cats.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband. She is survived by her sister, Lynn, and her family; her husband, Victor; daughter Lynne and her husband, Timothy Swihart, and grandson, Samuel; daughter Glynis Andrews and her daughters, Rachel Orsak (Scott) and Paige Collier (Daniel); and daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Jason Watson, and grandson, Lawrence. Jane was also blessed to know and love her great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Camden, Cade and Elaine. She was a loving stepmother to Victor’s three sons, Victor III, David, Dan and their families. She had an extended circle of family and Old Broads whom she loved dearly.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 7 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, 2401 College Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas, with interment in the church columbarium to follow.
