John Robert Abshire was born in 1941 and passed from this life on May 6, 2019. Interment: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211. John joined the Navy and served on the USS Lexington during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended Texas Tech University, receiving his bachelors and Masters degrees. After graduation from Texas Tech, he briefly taught in public schools and then taught history and government at Texas Tech. After moving to Fort Worth, he taught those courses and was among the first to teach through instructional television at Tarrant County Junior College. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanette Abshire.
