He is survived by his wife Cecilia (Cecil) Hair Moran, son Andrew Charles Moran, daughter Tara Moran Hedlund and husband Jason Hedlund, as well as grandsons Brayden John Moran and Finn Arthur Hedlund, and their beloved dog Marco. He is also survived by his sisters and their spouses, Kerran and Marion Hessler, Debbie and Bill Wesche, Laura and Terry Margheim, Becky and Rob Kiesel, and his brother Kevin Moran and wife Laurie Seidenberg; and Cecil's mother Jan Hair, and her siblings David and LeeAnn Hair, Michael and Sha Hair, Sandra and Mike Lackey, Richard and Jinger Hair, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs at bgca.org, or to the American Liver Foundation.
John was born in Scottsbluff, NE on December 21, 1953 to Charles H. Moran and Lyla Asselin Moran. In his youth, John served several years as acolyte at the former St Andrew's Episcopal Church and was involved in the Boy Scouts. He graduated from Gering High School in 1972. He served in the Army in Germany from 1972 to 1974. In 1975, he worked at Yellowstone Park, where he met & married his wife Cecil at the end of the summer. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in August 2025. They lived in Nebraska and Wyoming before moving to Texas in 1992. John was well-known as an expert in commercial garage doors and operators; in Cheyenne, he worked on some of the MX missile projects. He could also handle almost every aspect of building and repairs. He never met a motor he couldn't fix! He loved to fish, go camping, cook for his family, tinker on all kinds of projects, debate with anyone willing, and grew a large garden every year.
John's kind heart was always on the lookout for the animals of the world, and he shared that love with his children and grandchildren. He spent 9 years coaching Little League in WY and helped with Cub Scouts and Brownies when his kids were young. When they were grown, he supported Cecil in her various volunteer projects. He led by example, and left this world better for his being here.
