Obituary

Lori Maye (Newton) McGilberry, 51, of Arlington, TX passed away on August 1, 2026.

Lori was born in Richmond, VA to Howard Newton and Brenda Knee before moving to Arkansas at an early age. A 1993 graduate of Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, AR, Lori went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arkansas in 1998.

She had a long career as a Registered Interior Designer. Though her initial experience was in workplace design for large corporate headquarters, she found her true calling by specializing in design of healthcare facilities. She was integrally involved with the design of several large hospitals and clinics in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Her passion for improved design methods, research, and evidence-based design approach led her to become a speaker at several national industry conferences during her career. In 2016, she was elected President of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers.

In her personal life she was an avid reader, lover of art and fashion, an expert gift giver, and self-described Feline Enthusiast.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Kent McGilberry and son Owen, brother Michael Jarboe and family of Billings, MT, and several cherished aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 24th, 2026, at 2 o’clock at First United Methodist Church of Arlington, 313 N. Center Street, Arlington, TX. Lori will be interred alongside her father at Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville, VA in a ceremony at a later date. If desired, donations may be made in Lori’s memory to the American Migraine Foundation. https://americanmigrainefoundation.org/donate
