Obituary

Louise Jean Chiarezza Schmitt passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on July 12, 2026, at the age of 88.

Louise was born on January 9, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Florence and Calogero Chiarezza. Her parents immigrated from Sicily through Ellis Island before eventually settling in California, where Louise built a life centered on family, hard work, and service to others.

A determined and hardworking woman, Louise attended night school to earn her GED before graduating from Northlake College. She went on to earn her Real Estate Broker's License and built a successful career in real estate, all while raising six children. Her perseverance, dedication, and work ethic served as an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Louise was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of the Westridge Homeowners Association and was passionate about politics and civic engagement. She believed in making the world a better place and worked toward that goal throughout her life.

Above all else, Louise treasured her family. She especially looked forward to family gatherings, with Christmas being her favorite time of year. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Louise was also a proud 24-year breast cancer survivor, facing life's challenges with remarkable strength, courage, and grace.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Dennis Gray, Valerie Gray, Charlene Dorsey and her husband, David, and Sarah Kratky and her husband, Bernie; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roland F. Schmitt; her parents, Florence and Calogero Chiarezza; her brothers and sisters; her son, Charles Gray Jr.; her daughter, Mary LeCompton; her granddaughter, Shelly Compton Miller; her grandson, Chase Gray; and her daughter-in-law, Melissa Gray.

Louise's strength, generosity, determination, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to an Alzheimer's or dementia organization in Louise's memory.
