Private burial: Monday November 22 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery Memorials: The family asks that friends consider memorials to the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, St. Jude, and Mosaics of Mercy. November 5, 2021, Martha "Marty" Burkhard, 85, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by adoring children and grandchildren. Born in Lafayette, IN, on November 7, 1935 to Julian and Martha Jacobson, she received her undergraduate degree from Purdue University where she also met the love of her life and husband of 48 years, James "Jim" Burkhard. Shortly after marrying on May 31, 1958, Jim and Marty moved to Madison, Wi. where she received her Masters in Speech from the University of Wisconsin while working in what is now the Communication Science and Disorders program. Following years of service within her community, church, and family as a stay-at-home mother, Marty and Jim moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1982, where she enjoyed a 17 years career in support service at Texas Christian University Neeley School, retiring in 2002. She particularly appreciated watching TCU Athletics with her husband and family and was a true horned frog through and through. Marty was passionate about service and sharing Christ's love with all she came in contact. She possessed a special warmth, kindness, faith, and ability always to see the best in others that reminded you of all that is good and lovely in this world. She lived by her Credo to 'Be Whose You Are, Wherever You Are.' And while doing so, she also kept her family laughing right up to the end with her hilarious one-liners. Marty is survived by her two daughters; Lisa (Jim) Curtis of NC, Amy Pool of TX; son Chris (Sherry) Burkhard of TX; grandchildren, Lauren (Daniel) Lavellee of VA, Ryan (Stephanie) Curtis of VA, Katie Pool of CO, Cameron Pool of TX, Clayton Burkhard of TX, Alison Burkhard of TX; great-grandchildren, Weston James Lavallee, Lauren Grace Curtis; sisters, Tina (Robert) Burns of CA, Jan (Paul) Deliramich of CA, Julie (Jim) O'Rear of OH; brothers, Julian (Nan- cy) Jacobson of FL, Eric Jacobson of IN; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Marty was predeceased by her loving husband Jim, parents Julian and Martha Jacobson, sister Marjorie Hanes, and brother Ron Jacobson.
