Truman D. Finchum, 87, of Aledo, Texas, passed away on August 2, 2026. Born on March 12, 1939, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Truman was the son of John Robert and Jessie Mae Finchum.

A gifted athlete, Truman attended East Mississippi Community College and The University of Tulsa where he played football. In recognition of his athletic accomplishments, he was inducted into the East Mississippi Community College Hall of Fame in 2002. Following college, Truman proudly served his country in the United States Army, with deployments to Korea and Germany. After his military service, he moved to Houston, Texas, eventually settling in LaPorte, TX, where he built a life centered on family, friendship, and community. Truman shared 37 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susan Couch Finchum. Together they raised two daughters, Amy and Nancy, who were the pride of his life.

He was a devoted supporter of local athletics and could often be found cheering on the La Porte Bulldogs and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In retirement, Truman enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises, where he loved performing karaoke. He also had a trademark trait that everyone who knew him appreciated—he was never late. In fact, he was almost always hours early.

In 2015, Truman experienced one of the greatest joys of his life with the births of his grandchildren, Truman Douglas and Ella Rhea Tomme, affectionately known as "the babies." He treasured every opportunity to support them in their sports, school activities, and hobbies, and nothing made him happier than being their biggest fan.

Truman is survived by his daughters, Amy Tomme and her husband, Joe, of Aledo, Texas, and Nancy Finchum of New York, New York; his cherished grandchildren, Truman Douglas and Ella Rhea Tomme, "the babies"; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date in La Porte, Texas, and in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Truman will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his service to his country, and his love for the Lord.
