Virginia Ann Hopkins, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in Crowley, Texas. She was born on January 3, 1937, in Wheeler, Texas, to E. Douglas Greenhill and Mary E. Orfield Greenhill.
Virginia was a Christian and was baptized in 1950 at First Baptist Church of Shamrock. She graduated from Shamrock High School in 1955 and continued her education at Navarro Junior College, where she met her future husband. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan College in 1961.
After completing her education, Virginia fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She began her career with Crowley Independent School District in 1968, where she faithfully served for 28 years until her retirement in 1995. Her dedication to education left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
Virginia "Ginger" married the love of her life, Kenneth R. Hopkins "Hoppy", and together they raised four children. Family was at the center of her life.
In her free time, Virginia enjoyed quilting, reading, and shopping, especially for dishes. Those who knew her well can attest that every cabinet in her home was filled with her carefully collected treasures.
To know Virginia was to love her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Hopkins; her parents, Douglas and Mary Greenhill; her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Jerry Mounce; and her grandsons, David Billman and Cade Billman
She is survived by her children, Debra Billman, Dolores Hopkins, Mark Hopkins and Dana Skiffington. Nanny Hopkins (Ding-Ding) is also survived by her four grandsons, Gary Billman, David Hopkins, Cameron Billman, Colby Skiffington; and eighteen great grandchildren.
