Wayne was born in Peoria, Illinois on January 15, 1934 to Gaylord and Mary Van Alstine. Wayne was a 1952 graduate of Manual Training High School. He was an accomplished clarinet player and upon graduation, Wayne joined the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1952-1956 as a member of the Air Force Band stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. On November 1, 1958, Wayne married Phyllis Tockes in Peoria. They were married almost 50 years. Phyllis passed away on August 9, 2008. Wayne was also preceded in death by his son, G.W. Van Alstine of Carlinville, Illinois. Wayne worked as a Stationary Engineer for 35 years at the Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria. Wayne also owned and operated Wayne & Phyl's Tavern in Bartonville during the 1970's. Wayne was a member of American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville and a member of the GMC 6 Wheeler's R.V. Club. No service is planned; however, Wayne will be interned along side his wife Phyllis in Luthern Cemetery in Peoria
